What does a hair implant consist of?

Hair implant or transplantation is a surgery that allows us to correct bald areas (partial or total absence of hair in some areas of the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, beard, etc.), in both men and women.
The hair implant  procedure is performed under local anesthesia or sedation or general anesthesia and is minimally invasive and we redesigns the way the patient wishes to improve their bald area and improves hair coverage.
The initial recovery process lasts 10 to 15 days, and results are gradually seen over time. Final recovery is achieved between 6 months and 1 year after the treated area has healed and the new hair follicles have adapted.
The surgery can last between 4 and 10 hours depending on the area being treated.

People with areas of gradual or partial hair loss as a result of trauma that causes hair loss in the eyebrows, beard or head, among others.

What characteristics should the hospital or clinic where hair implant surgical procedures are performed have?

• Have a multidisciplinary team with sufficient experience in managing the pathology.
• Have facilities suitable for performing the procedure.
• Have up-to-date legal permits required for the entity’s authorization.
• Handle sterile materials, appropriate sutures for the procedure, and necessary supplies.

What preoperative aspects should a person have in order to undergo a hair implant?

Anyone wishing to undergo a hair transplant must meet the following health conditions and meet the requirements listed below:
• Have normal clinical examinations
• Good nutritional status
• Prior psychological evaluation, if possible
• Review or evaluate the motivation that led to the decision to undergo the hair transplant procedure.
• Have no active medical condition
• Thoroughly review patient history, including: existing illnesses or pathologies, family history, previous surgeries, among others
• Read the instructions given by your doctor and any warning signs and emergencies
• Have a complication insurance policy if required
• Review the patient’s tissue quality to decide on reconstruction or whether they have both a donor and recipient area.

Care after a transplant?

• Avoid excessive exercise (you will start going to the gym after one month with established guidelines to prevent dehiscence or trauma).
• Care for the hair grafts as directed.
• Walk around immediately, which will prevent PE (thrombi).
• Wear the compression bandage that was applied after the procedure until it is removed by your doctor.
• Take medications as directed by your attending physician.
• Hydrate with water and serum for the grafts every 2 hours initially and daily as directed.
• Avoid performing any maneuvers or treatments other than those prescribed by your attending physician.
• Your first hair wash will be done directly in the clinic to prevent graft loss.
• Postoperative checkups as directed.
• Be familiar with the warning signs and emergency procedures and report them immediately.
• Check tissue vitality daily (scabs, infection, erythema, edema), and report them daily.
